Patient‐to‐robot registration: The fate of robot‐assisted stereotaxy

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background Robot-assisted stereotaxy (RAS) promises higher stereotactic accuracy (SA) and time efficiency (TE) than frame-based stereotaxy. However, both aspects are attributed to the problem of patient-to-robot registration. Objective To examine different registration techniques regarding their SA TE. Methods This study enrolled 57 patients undergoing RAS with bone fiducial (BFR) or laser surface (LSR). was measured by entry point error (EPE). Additionally, predictors (registration [RegE], distance-to-registration plane [DTC]) TE (imaging, skin-to-skin) were assessed. Results The mean 1.0 ± 0.8 mm. BFR increased reducing RegE DTC. In LSR, EPE depended on DTC (face forehead) highest for ≤100 CT-based LSR exerted a MR-based LSR. BFR, confined additional imaging. Conclusion Every technique counteracts one RAS. New solutions needed increase acceptance in neurosurgery.

Frameless stereotaxy of the brain.

Today's neurosurgical journals are replete with advertisements for systems designed to provide image guidance during surgery. These so-called "frameless" stereotactic systems provide the surgeon with navigational information, relating the location of instruments in the operative field to preoperative imaging data. Such information minimizes invasiveness by more accurately selecting the best tra...

Comparison of laser surface scanning and fiducial marker-based registration in frameless stereotaxy. Technical note.

The authors compared the accuracy of laser surface scanning patient registration using the commercially available Fazer (Medtronic, Inc.) with the conventional registration procedure based on fiducial markers (FMs) in computer-assisted surgery. Four anatomical head specimens were prepared with 10 titanium microscrews placed at defined locations and scanned with a 16-slice spiral computed tomogr...

Retinoic Acid Determines the Fate of Spermatogonia

In this review, we aim to examine the effect of extrinsic and intrinsic factors on spermatogenesis process taking into account a complex signaling pathway. Primarily, it is suggested that retinoic acid (RA) has a vital function in spermatogenesis process and it is considered to be essential for completion of spermatogonia into mature spermatozoa. In the present review, the key effects of retino...

The colossal circumvention of the lung lesion during lung stereotaxy

This is a case report on stereotaxic (Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy-SBRT) for lung cancer located in the left lower lobe (Segment 6, S6). There have been no reports on marked displacement of the peripheral lung cancer during radiotherapy. A pulmonary nodule was discovered on computed tomography (CT) conducted for a persistent cough in an 87-year-old male. According to diagnostic imaging, this ...

An automatic registration method for frameless stereotaxy, image guided surgery, and enhanced reality visualization

There is a need for frameless guidance systems to help surgeons plan the exact location for incisions, to define the margins of tumors, and to precisely identify locations of neighboring critical structures. The authors have developed an automatic technique for registering clinical data, such as segmented magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) reconstructions, with any vie...
